RALEIGH - The possum drop lives.
Governor Pat McCrory signed four bills into law Wednesday including a measure that will allow the community of Brasstown to lower a live possum as part of its New Year’s Eve celebration.
The governor also signed a bill that prevents North Carolina from expanding Medicaid under the federal Affordable Health Care Act. It also instructs the state to allow the federal government run a health insurance exchange, which is designed primarily to provide coverage for low-income households.
Another law ensures group homes and Alzheimer's care units can access state funds to deal with Medicaid coverage changes.
The governor also signed a bill that increases penalties for protests at military funerals.
