Space Heater Suspected Cause Of House Fire That Kills Two Children In Gibsonville |

RALEIGH - Two children were found dead inside a burnt-out home Saturday morning in Gibsonville.
Guilford County Emergency Services identified the two children as Jade Hawks, 1, and Matthew Ridge-Powls, 4, of 5913 NC 61 North. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The children’s grandfather Fred Ridge tried to rescue the children. Two people tried to assist Ridge in the rescue.
Guilford County units responded to the house fire ar 6:48 a.m. Firefighters were the two children were trapped inside the burning house. Units began fire suppression, conducted a search and rescue operation. During their search, firefighters found the children deceased in their bed.
An electrical space heater in the living room is the suspected cause of the fire. The home did not have smoke detectors.
The children's bodies will be sent to the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for autopsy.
