RALEIGH, -The Governor's Highway Safety Program is marking the 20th anniversary of its "Click It or Ticket" campaign. North Carolina was the first state in the nation to launch the innovative seat belt safety awareness campaign in 1993.

The Governor's Highway Safety Program scheduled the events in Raleigh, because it is one of four municipalities statewide that helped launch the inaugural "Click It or Ticket" campaign 20 years ago.

Despite the success of "Click It or Ticket," officials say there has been a decline in seat belt usage in recent years, which is why the Governor's Highway Safety Program is stepping up efforts on the 20th anniversary to work towards a goal of 100 percent seat belt usage.
