RALEIGH -- A familiar business name in North Carolina will be no more before the end of this year. Amanda Hoyle with Triangle Business Journal said last year's acquisition of Kerr Drugs by national drugstore chain Walgreens now means customers will be seeing a lot more of the script "W" around the state.

"The company spokesman told us this week that the Kerr Drug name will be going away later this year, with all the stores signs changing to Walgreens," Hoyle said.

Walgreens paid $173 million for the Kerr Drug chain, a price tag less than half of the $381 million in total sales that Kerr recorded in 2012, according to TBJ.
