RALEIGH -- Former Governor Bev Perdue was on the campus of NC State University today to announce the initiative called DigiLEARN, or the Digital Learning Institute. Perdue, who chairs the group, held a news conference with former Wyoming Gov. Jim Geringer. Perdue was asked to comment on Governor McCrory's promise to raise teacher pay in North Carolina in 2014.

She said, "I was delighted this morning to see the comment that there would be teacher pay increases for this next calendar year. We are losing teachers, and I hope that statement covers community colleges and universities too as well as state employees."

Perdue would not comment when asked about her feelings on state government under Republican rule in North Carolina.
