MARS HILL – State arson investigators have been called in to help determined the cause of the fire that destroyed a lodge at the Wolf Ridge Ski Resort in Madison County early Wednesday morning. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department had already started an investigation into the blaze which led to a total loss of the building. No injuries were reported. The fire destroyed a restaurant, ski rental and other services related to the resort.

Meanwhile, there are published reports the resort a deal over the resort is in court. The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that Park Resorts has filed a suit against four limited liability companies which own the resort over a deal to sell the property.

This the second major fire at the location in 12 years. There was also blaze in 2002 at what was then known at the Wolf Laurel Ski Resort which destroyed the ticket booth and a group sales building. That fire was found to be an accident.
