RALEIGH -- NC State University political science professor Andy Taylor says that while turnout was low for this past Tuesday's primary election, it could have been worse. He says the 16 percent turnout was still higher than some other non-presidential election years.

"Apart from the Republican Senate primary, there really wasn't a statewide race that really would have generated broad interest," Taylor said.

He added that there was a slight uptick in early voting, despite a reduced number of days available. However, the number of hours of voting remained the same in most areas.
