Attorney Offers Update Into UNC Investigation

CHAPEL HILL -- No answers yet, but a lot of questions are being asked. That from a former federal prosecutor conducting an independent investigation into  investigate academic irregularities involving the school's Afro American studies program and some student athletes. Kenneth Weinstein told members of the UNC Board of Governors with criminal charges now being filed he has more tools for his probe with cooperation from prosecutors.

Weinstein made it clear that while the university is providing assistance in collecting data and providing sources for interviews, the school has no direct involvement in the investigation.

Wainstein's appearance comes two weeks after former Tar Heel basketball star Rashad McCants claimed he played on the school's 2005 national championship team despite not attending any classes. McCants' allegations are the latest levied against UNC in a scandal that began as an offshoot of a 2010 NCAA investigation into the football program.
