COROLLA -- The body of a Raleigh-area teen who disappeared in the ocean off the Currituck Outer Banks over the weekend was recovered. Sam Walker with outerbanksvoice.com, says the body of a 16 year old from Fuquay Varina was recovered Monday morning.

Walker said, "Thomas Harman was swimming with a group of family members around 4 p.m. Saturday. They got into some type of distress out in the water, in the 4-wheel-drive area north of Corolla. Five of the family members were pulled out of the surf, but Thomas Harman did not make it out."

Corolla Ocean Rescue, Currituck deputies, members of the Corolla and Carova Beach volunteer fire departments and private citizens spent the last two days looking for Harman.

Currituck County Sheriff Susan Johnson said Harman's body was spotted in the surf Monday morning by a pair of visitors from Pennsylvania near Seagull Lane, not far from where the teen disappeared.
