RALEIGH -- North Carolina's Environmental Agency has issued a directive to Duke Energy to test drinking water around the 14 power plant facilities across the Tar Heel state. Susan Massengale, Public Information Officer with the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources, says - at the request of citizens - they have done testing at several facilities.

Massengale said, "Up to this time, we haven't found problems at the Allen plant or at the Buck plant. But, we saw some indications of problems near the Asheville plant, and went forward - working with Duke - to make sure the citizens had clean water to drink."

According to Massengale, Duke has until October 14th to perform water surveys at each facility in North Carolina.
