GOLDSBORO –  Authorities are still searching the man who is thought to have shot and killed a longtime Wayne Community college employee Monday morning.

Wayne Community College print shop employee Ron Lane was killed Monday after he was shot by a gunman while working on campus. He was known as Mr. Ron among college students.

Wayne Community College President Dr. Kay Albertson said that Lane had just reported to work for the day and was doing his job prior to the shooting. The campus shooting happened on the 3rd floor of the WLC building in the general area of the college’s library and forced the evacuation of all campus buildings.

As of Monday afternoon, the gunman at last report was still at-large. Authorities are searching for Kenneth Stancil. He is currently being referred to as a person-of-interest. He is a white male, 5’11”, bald with a tattoo over his left eye. At the time of the shooting he was armed with a rifle and was wearing a blue jacket and light pants.

Authorities have indicated the search area for Stancil is no longer on the college’s campus. However, they would not say where they think he may be.
