RALEIGH - North Carolina's biggest industry is holding its own festival this weekend. The Got To Be NC festival celebrates state agriculture and local food and agriculture commissioner Steve Troxler says this is one of his favorite parts of his job.

"It's a celebration of North Carolina's agriculture and food," Troxler says.

Troxler, in an interview with SFNToday.com, says this year Lowe's Foods will be a presenting sponsor for the festival in its eighth year.

"Lowe's Foods is going to be part of our homegrown fair," Troxler says. "This is our festival's popular showcase of North Carolina food, wine and beer."

Troxler says the festival will have other exhibits related to North Carolina agriculture, such as antique farming equipment and a chance to interact with farm animals. He says, with fewer North Carolinians working on in farming, events like this are important.

"Think about how many kids we have today that are at least two generations removed from the farm," he says. "The festival is a great place for families to see farm animals and learn more about the hardworking men and women who make up this state's top industry."

And Troxler says there are a number of other events on top of those.

"You can't come to the festival without the Carolina pig jig barbecue cook-off," he says. "We're going to have the daily tractor parade, all the great food, carnival rides and a bluegrass band competition."

Last year, agriculture generated more than $70 billion for the state.
