RALEIGH-- Although former Democratic Senator Kay Hagan has given no indication she is going to run, there's some new numbers out on next year's U.S. Senate race.
Carolina Journal editor Rick Henderson says the American Crossroads Super PAC polled North Carolinians and showed Republican Senator Richard Burr's strongest showing against potential match up Hagan with a lead of 49 to 42 percent.
"But it also says that Senator Burr's favorable rating is 50 percent, which is the highest we've seen it in quite a while, versus 34 percent unfavorable. Of interest, Senator Hagan's favorable and unfavorable rating is fairly close in this American Crossroads poll. It was closer than it was in public policy polling," he says.
Henderson says if Hagan decides to get involved it will have to be soon, because she is way behind in fundraising.
"She has only about $2,000 cash on hand, which is about 4 million dollars less than she had at this time in the cycle when she was running last time. Senator Burr has about two and a half million dollars on hand, and has not really wrapped up his fundraising yet," he says.
Burr is saying national security will be his most important issue in 2016.
