(DURHAM) -- After 30 years, North Carolina Central University is cutting the math and science-oriented "Summer Ventures" program, joining two other colleges that also dropped the initiative that gives high school students a chance to get some college exposure.
Melissa Theibault coordinates the program through the North Carolina School for Science and Math. She says Appalachian State, East Carolina, and UNC Charlotte are still providing the service for about 150 students. "The fact that those three universities that are persisting with this program and have endured are able to protect the dollars and continue to provide the services to those high school students is really laudable," she said.
At its peak, Summer Ventures served around 600 students.
