BENSON – No charges are expected after one person was killed in a two vehicle collision on I-95 north in Johnston County near the I-40 interchange.
At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday a 2015 Peterbuilt tractor trailer was traveling north on I-95 near I-40 when it began to slow due to road construction ahead. As the Peterbuilt tractor trailer began to stop, a 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer towing a flatbed trailer approached from the rear.
The driver of the Freightliner veered to the right in an attempt to avoid striking the Peterbuilt but was unsuccessful and clipped the right back portion of the tractor trailer. The vehicle then continued onto the right shoulder where it rolled over onto its’ side; ejecting the driver. As a result, the driver died at the scene. The driver has been identified as Samuel Oryan Clark, 39, of Albany, Ga. A female passenger was in the vehicle at the time of the collision. She was taken to Wake Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Peterbuilt, has been identified as Matthew Drew Hunter, 24, of Youngsville. He was not injured.
At the time of the collision, the Peterbuilt tractor trailer was transporting Butane. No butane was released. Traffic was detoured onto I-40 eastbound as investigators and first responders removed debris.
