McCrory Says Keep Dorothea Dix Open PDF Print E-mail
(RALEIGH) -- Republican candidate for Governor Pat McCrory is calling for the state to keep the Dorothea Dix Mental Facility in Raleigh open so the next Governor can make the choice of when it should close. The state was going to begin moving patients this month from Dix to the new regional mental hospital, but there have been many complaints the new hospital isn’t ready.  The move has already been put off a month but McCrory wants to keep Dix open until the next Governor has a chance to pick the next leadership in the mental health system. Patients would now begin to move into the new hospital the last week of July. A spokesman for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beverly Perdue did not return our call.
