(RALEIGH) -- Funeral arrangements for a Raleigh Fire Captain killed December 21 in an automobile accident will take place this afternoon.

A 2:00 PM service for Captain Jonathan “Scott” Nipper will be held at Providence Baptist Church at 6339 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Raleigh Memorial Gardens.

Nipper was killed in a traffic accident last Wednesday in the Granville County town of Oxford. His 10-year-old daughter, Gracie, a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was airlifted to Duke Medical Center where she underwent multiple surgical procedures to repair several fractures.

Raleigh Fire Chief John McGrath said last week that the department is still reeling from Nippers passing.

Captain Nipper was assigned to Fire Station One in Downtown Raleigh.
