(RALEIGH) -- Watch your mailbox - important documents to help you prepare the most accurate tax return should be arriving soon. Mark Hansen with the IRS in Greensboro says companies are obligated to provide those tax documents.

"W-2s should be made available to employees by the end of January. Taxpayers who do not receive them by the end of January can follow instructions on the irs.gov website for information about obtaining them, but keep in mind employers still have a little bit more time to make those available," Hansen said.

The deadline this year is on April 17th because the 15th lands on a Sunday and the 16th is a holiday in Washington, DC.
