RALEIGH - Critics say the state should create a more business-friendly climate instead of offering tax breaks to specific businesses like MetLife, who will receive more than 90 million dollars in incentives.

The company announced Thursday it will bring 2600 jobs to Cary and Charlotte. Mitch Kokai is with the John Locke Foundation.

"MetLife would be just as likely to come to North Carolina if you told them 'Hey, there is no corporate income tax, hey the personal income tax is much lower than those in our surrounding states.'"

Kokai says as states compete against each other to recruit business, companies who are already located in North Carolina could be lured away.
