RALEIGH -- A debt ceiling bill signed into law by the President forces the Senate to pass a budget for the first time in four years.

Republican Senator Richard Burr says the number one thing he thinks will be in a Senate budget is tax increases.

"And to do that you are going to have to affect many more Americans. Meaning the middle class is probably going to be the target of the middle class."

Democratic Senator Kay Hagan says the tax area needs to be a focus.

"we have got to look at what sort of loop holes and credits we can close. We have really got to look at the spending side of [things.]"

Both Senators say reducing spending is important and there is waste in nearly every sector of the government.
