RALEIGH -- Scam artists are on the prowl again with a sophisticated new scam, where they impersonate Internal Revenue Service officials. IRS spokesperson Mark Hansen says the scam artist even have the general IRS phone number come up on the caller ID.

Hansen said, "This particular scam is very sophisticated. It's a phone scam targeting taxpayers, including many recent immigrants to the United States. And it's taking place throughout the country."

Hansen said not to be pressured into giving your credit card information because the IRS will never ask for your card number over the phone. Find out more at irs.gov, search "tax scams."
