ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- Republicans in North Carolina's 6th District will be looking for another option for Congress after the recent announcement that Representative Howard Coble would be retiring when his term is up in 2014. Phil Berger Junior would like to be that option. Berger Jr. says he has a very positive relationship with Coble.

Berger Jr. says, "I am going to serve as the District Attorney for Rockingham County, but today I announce that I am going to run for Congress. Howard [Coble] and I have just a great relationship. And when he announced that he was going to retire, I decided to throw my name into the ring."

Berger's father, Phil Berger, is the North Carolina Senate President Pro Tem.

Berger Junior describes himself as an "unapologetic Republican" on fiscal and social issues.
