CHARLOTTE -- 45-year-old Drew Swope is out of a job in Charlotte after the cook was fired for comments he made to Governor Pat McCrory over the weekend. Swope approached a customer and asked if he could help. That customer turned out to be Governor McCrory to which Swope responded, "thanks for nothing," because he disagrees with McCrory's politics. William Peace University Political Science Professor David McLennan says this is serving as an unnecessary distraction.

McLennan said, "It's not usually what happens, it's what happens after the event. In this case, the governor is being forced to explain or not explain a situation that really is getting him off message."

Swope says he doesn't blame his boss for firing him, acknowledging that his comment was "out of turn."
