RALEIGH -- North Carolina wildlife officials are hoping that a new piece of legislation, which is being introduced by Senator Kay Hagan, will help protect recreation, wildlife and natural resources.

Gordon Myers, executive director of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, says that the commission manages more than two million acres of game land throughout the state.

"Much of those public plans are contained within the natural forest system too. And the key issue that we often hear about from North Carolina, center around the lack of access or barriers to that access on those lands."

According to Myers, the Wildlife Resources Commission conducts nine public hearings across the state every year. The hearings are designed to provide face-to-face feedback on rule changes and ideas moving forward.
