RALEIGH -- This week is Small Business Week to celebrate the work done by small businesses across the nation. Harvey Schmitt, President of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, says he knows first hand the value of small businesses.

Schmitt said, "In the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, we have about 2,300 member firms. About 85% of them have 50 or fewer employees. So, we're really a small business organization. We've got a very aggressive small business membership services department."

Schmitt says that the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce defines a small business as having 50 or fewer employees, while the federal government defines it as having 500 or fewer.
