RALEIGH -- The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources revealed details Thursday on the cleanup of the coal ash ponds across the state. North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and state lawmakers have been trying to decide how to clean up Duke Energy's 33 coal ash ponds around the state. DENR Secretary John Skvarla supported the governor's plan.

Skvarla said, "The governor's blueprint is not about politics. It's about doing the right thing for the citizens of North Carolina."

The plan tightens rules on landfills that would handle waste, and makes past dam safety reports available to the state.
