CHAPEL HILL -- The former federal prosecutor hired to conduct an independent investigation of past academic irregularities at UNC-Chapel Hill will be releasing his findings on Wednesday. In February, Ken Wainstein was hired to determine the facts around the African and Afro-American Studies department amid accusations of "paper classes" and the extent of their use by student athletes.
In June, Wainstein made it clear he has no limits on how to perform the probe, "We alone are the ones deciding on what our investigative plan and strategy is. We are the ones deciding whom to talk to, what questions to ask, what records we want, what records we need."
Former student athletes have claimed tutors wrote term papers for them, and they rarely attended class.
A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday at 1 P.M.
