RALEIGH -- State Senate President Phil Berger of Rockingham says while it is not perfect, tax changes approved by the Republicans have led to lower taxes for most North Carolinians. Berger disagreed with claims made earlier this week by Democrats and others that many low and middle income people have seen increases because of the elimination of key deductions.
Berger did say there may be parts of the reform package that could be reviewed.
"We are trying to get a handle on exactly what they are, how extensive they are and whether or not there is a need for us to make some modifications."
Berger says the tax overhaul was way overdue.
