WASHINGTON, D.C. - We're in the middle of Women's Health Week and Nancy Lee with the U.S. Health Department says there are a number of things women can do to ensure they get healthy.

"We want them to get active, we want them to eat healthy, we want them to pay attention to their mental health including getting plenty of sleep and managing the stress in their lives," Lee says.

And Lee says paying attention to health is particularly important for women.

"We know that women don't make their health a priority so whatever challenge you're going to have, if you don't make it a priority, it may be worse," Lee says.

Lee says not only should women start prioritizing their health more, but men should work to prioritize the health of the women in their lives as well.

"I encourage men and sons and husbands and uncles and people like that to really think that they can help motivate the women in their lives to focus on their own health," she says.

To help with health, Lee says women can do easier things than just go to the doctor and get examinations such as going for walks.

"If women know that every day, all they have to do is do one simple thing that helps with their health and then the next day they do another simple thing then that's going to add up and if they do that every day, they're going to live a healthier life," she says.
