RALEIGH--The American Lung Association is asking smokers to reach for the app rather than a cigarette. Association Senior Medical Advisor Dr. Albert Rizzo says the Quitter's Circle app provides smokers with professional guidance along with a constant support system.
"As a former physician everyday I know my patients want to quit. It's a very tough addiction to quit both chemically, behaviorally and socially. And part of the quitting process can be very isolated. So by having a supportive team around you, and the resources to get education, finances and that important support makes it much more successful in the quitting process for the individual," he says.
Rizzo says only 35 to 36 percent of smokers had a plan in place while trying to quit, and without a plan it is much easier to relapse.
He says with the app you can keep track of how many cigarettes you are smoking and set milestones for yourself and see when you reach your goals.
