RALEIGH – A Fayetteville man pleaded guilty Wednesday in Wake County District Court to tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Timothy N. Reid, 51, of 4114 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC pleaded guilty on July 8, 2015 to three counts of Attempting to Evade and Defeat Tax.
According to information supplied by the revenue department, District Court Judge Craig Croom sentenced Reid to a six-month minimum, seventeen-month maximum prison term. The sentence was suspended and Reid was placed on supervised probation for 60 months. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $17,282.00, pay a fine of $1,500.00, and complete 100 hours of community service.
Information in court showed Reid knowingly and willfully maintained with his employer, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., fraudulent Forms NC-4 Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate, during the tax years 2011 through 2013, claiming to be exempt from North Carolina individual income tax withholding. These actions caused The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., to not withhold state individual income tax from his wages, when in fact he was not exempt from state individual income tax withholding, all in an attempt to evade and defeat the North Carolina Individual Income Tax.
The charges against Reid resulted from an investigation by special agents with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
