CARY -- Cary's Police Chief retired Friday after nearly three decades of service to the community.
At a retirement party held for Patricia Bazemore, Cary's first female chief of police detailed some of the challenges she had starting her career.
"I was destined to be a mother that was on welfare and taking care of my baby, but there was something in me that just would not let that happen because I could not fail her."
Bazemore said she plans to focus on her family, hike, and volunteer in the community.
