(RALEIGH) -- The United Health Foundation has released its annual America's Health Rankings. North Carolina ranked 31st in the country, up six spots from last year's 37th. That's the biggest jump in the country.

Rhonda Randall with the United Health Foundation says the US saw improvement in some key areas. "Americans are less sedentary than they were the prior year, so more physical activity in 2015 compared to 2014, which is really good news," she said.

North Carolina also saw a rise in immunizations among children and adolescents, and a decline in the incidences of salmonella infections. Other North Carolina state rankings include 21st for drug deaths and 39th for children living in poverty.

Overall, Hawaii was the healthiest state and Louisiana was the least healthy.
