WASHINGTON, DC – The current top man at the Veterans Affairs administration will be visiting the VA Hospital in Fayetteville after news this week that facility is at the top of the list for delays in veterans receiving care.

Sen. Kay Hagan issued a statement late Tuesday after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson will travel to the Fayetteville VA Medical Center on Thursday. Earlier this week, Hagan wrote Secretary Gibson calling on him to visit the Fayetteville facility in the wake of the VA's report that veterans there face among the highest average wait times in the country.

"I am pleased to hear that Acting VA Secretary Gibson will visit the Fayetteville VAMC later this week as I called on him to do.” Hagan said in the statement. “There must be swift, decisive and extraordinary action taken to address the issues at the Fayetteville VAMC, where wait times are among the highest in the country, and veterans need to hear directly from VA leadership about what will be done to ensure they have access to the benefits they have earned after serving our country with honor and dignity."
