Lesbian Couple Arrested for Blocking Entrance to Marriage License Office
Friday, 11 May 2012 08:52

A lesbian couple was arrested in Forsyth County Thursday after blocking the entrance to the county marriage license office and refusing to leave the grounds when the office closed for the day.

Mary Jamis of Mocksville and Mary Bradford of Winston-Salem, were charged after the two were told by officials they could not get a marriage license under the new state law banning gay marriage.  Nine gay couples presented completed forms to a clerk at the register of deeds office, including Ali and Elroi Windsor.  "Our kids deserve this right, because our kids deserve the protection and rights that are associated with marriage," said Elroi Windsor.
