RALEIGH -- North Carolina is locked in a legal battle with the state chapter of the NAACP over the new voter ID legislation that was signed into law last year. Now the lawsuit, filed by the Advancement Project on behalf of the NAACP, has been amended to include the Latino community, according to Reverend William Barber - President of the North Carolina Chapter of the NAACP.

According to Barber, "Leading with the NAACP's historic position to fight all discrimination and to stand on behalf of all people of color...we want to show how this law is hurting minorities. And so we've added Latinos."

Maria Palmer is one of the new plaintiffs added to the lawsuit. She was the first member of the Latino community elected to the Chapel Hill City Council, and she was arrested during the Moral Monday protest.

Reverend Barber added that they are working with several churches from the Latino community.
