RALEIGH -- A winter storm warning has been issued for the southeast half of central North Carolina as confidence is high that precipitation on Tuesday through Wednesday will fall as snow. National Weather Service Meteorologist Nick Petro says there is an area, however, that might see a wintry mix.

According to Petro, "Right at the onset, in the southern portion of the sandhills region and the southern coastal plain, don't be surprised if you see a few sleet pellets mixing in when the precipitation first starts early Tuesday afternoon, midday or so."

The National Weather Service says anywhere between one and eight inches of snow may fall, the greatest amounts expected in the southeast half of central North Carolina, along the I-95 corridor.
