RALEIGH -- The Amanda Hayes murder trial continued Friday in Wake County. Amanda's husband, Grant, and Laura Ackerson had been locked in a long-running custody dispute over their two children.

Ackerson's custody attorney, John Sargeant, told jurors that Grant's standing in the custody case had Laura worried about her safety.

"Mr. Hayes knew the evaluation was not going his way, so she was afraid that they might do something to her to try to gain advantage in the custody case."

Grant has already been charged with murder in this death last year, and he has said he would testify in this case if called on by either side.
